Insights From The Team Behind The Non Violence Torrent

What did you want to accomplish with the project?

At Animal our philosophy is that whenever we can, make the world just a tiny bit better with the help of creativity. The Non Violence Torrent is a testament to that. So in the early stages of the project, our thinking was centered around how we could stop 3D-printed guns all together.

We soon realized that that’s a pretty naive thought. If someone wants to get their hands on a 3D-printed gun, they will. So our thoughts shifted towards a more conscious approach. How could we change the actions of a person who is on the verge of printing a deadly weapon?

Our solution was to incept a peaceful message instead. And by doing so we follow the Non-Violence mantra by “solving conflicts peacefully”.

What technical challenges did you encounter and how did you solve them? is not as easy to handle as it used to be (not that we were ever there in the hay-days). Nowadays, the site can be up a minute and down another.

So setting up accounts and flooding the charts with the Non Violence Torrent was a bit of a hassle. But through time and A LOT of perseverance, there’s now so many files up there that we almost lost track of them.

What did winning the FWA award mean to you?

The FWA stands for innovation and pushing the boundaries of what’s possible with digitally focused creativity. To win FWA with any project is a great honor, but we’re especially honored since this is a passion project done pro-bono.
